Question about training?

I’ve heard arguments for both sides so what is?

I’m talking about the fact that some people say that after training you should rest to leave you’re muscles recover and leave new muscle grow and anything else you do is counter productive but on the other hand you’ve top athletes training maybe twice a day, 6 days a week and I’ve heard people say that that where the gains are made.

So which is it? I really would like to hear from a fitness instructor or personal trainer, or even a person training at high level. Thanks
I’m not doing this for bodybuilding.

I’m doing it to improve at a sport (Gaelic Football) which has a high level of contact so I need explosive power but I can’t be too big because running speed over 60 mins is just as important

depends if your training for size , definition , cardiovascular, etc

if you train for size , lift weights everyday but train different body parts on different days whilsts others are recovering

for size, fail at 6-9 reps

for definition , fail at 12 – 16 reps

for cardio , must run far and fast everyday
